Panchayat

A Panchayat is a body of elected representatives for the administration of the Panchayati Raj Institutions. For a Gram Panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of a Gram Sabha and runs the day-to-day administration. The main components of the Panchayat are: President: Shri. Jose V Jacob is the head of Thalayolaparambu panchayat. He presides over meetings and supervises the overall activities of the Panchayat. The Vice President, Smt. Anita Subash is discharging her duties in the absence of the President. Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat. Standing Committees: These are sub-committees set up for matters such as finance, development, welfare, health and education to facilitate decisions.

History of Grama Panchayat

The legend of Thalayolaparambu is associated with the Karthyayani Temple at Thalayolaparambu, one of the ancient temples in Kerala. It is believed that until about 5 decades ago, there were many palm trees bearing palm leaves around the Karthyayani Temple, and therefore this land was called Thaliyolaparambu, which later evolved into Thalayolaparambu. In the early days, only the areas surrounding the temple were called Thalayolaparambu. The name Thalayolaparambu is also associated with the history of Venad. The ruler of Venad granted tax-free lands to the minister of Chazhi Illam as a reward for killing the King of Vadakkumkoor.
